Like many people, I express love and care through the cooking of food. In college, I made sure my friends ate vegetables by presenting them yellow curry and kale salad once every two weeks at informal dinner parties. In adult life, I cajole my friends to visit me in Berkeley with chicken soup, coconut milk braised short ribs, and home-made dumplings. My mother did this. My grandmother did this. I wrote about it.

Food I’ve Cooked for Those I’ve Loved is a zine I wrote, illustrated, published, and bound. It features 10 of my important relationships, and the food I cooked for them. For each, there is an illustration of a recipe, and a short story. There is drama. There is heart-felt emotion. There is a lot of butter. Copies are available for purchase here.
